Energy Efficient Retrofitting & Research Breakfast Briefing in Cork
The Construction Industry Federation (CIF) in association with Energy Cork is hosting a breakfast briefing on Thursday 26th June 2014 in the Gresham Metropole Hotel, MacCurtain Street, Cork.
The focus of the briefing will be on energy use in buildings and energy efficient retrofitting. The SR54:2014 Code of Practice for the energy efficient retrofit of dwellings and allied research activities taking place in Cork will also be discussed.
The speakers at the briefing will be:
– Thomas English, Grad 1 Inspector with the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government
– Rene Peeren, Energy Research Co-ordinator at Cork Institute of Technology
Thomas will introduce attendees to SR54:2014 and update them on the latest developments, while Renee will provide an overview of energy research in CIT with a particular focus on their building energy efficiency and reftrofit test-beds.

About the speakers:
Thomas English is a Grade I Inspector with the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government. He worked as a Chartered Building Surveyor in the private sector before joining the Department, where he has worked in various positions within the Housing Inspectorate. Until 2012, he was involved with the committee that developed SR54:2014 Code of Practice for the energy efficient retrofit of dwellings. At present Thomas is seconded to the Pyrite Resolution Board as a technical adviser.
Rene Peeren, MEngSc BEng is the Energy Research Co-ordinator in CIT, responsible for co-ordinating the different energy related research activities, covering a wide range such as building energy, biomass, solar, community energy and grid integration. He has had a long career in industry, starting in the telecommunication industry before moving to energy. As Head of Product Manager in Ericsson in the early 2000s he was responsible for the software development of mobile gaming applications. He was co-founder of Q-Tell, a provider of hosted call centre solutions. Prior to his role in CIT he was Head of Software Development (based in Cork) for Endeco Technologies, developing their Smart Grid Aggregated Demand Response system for refrigeration systems, mostly cold stores. He is sole inventor of 2 patents and co-inventor of 7 more.
