Construction Industry Federation briefing on pyrite
12th August 2014
Pyrite continues to cause major concern across the construction industry. It is clear that despite all of the new measures put in place pyrite can still find its way on to sites and cause major complications for any project. The problem of pyrite is not going away so it is up to the industry to manage the problem effectively to ensure that when cases of pyrite are found on sites they can be dealt with swiftly and efficiently.
To provide additional information on this major issue to our members, the Construction Industry Federation (CIF) is holding a breakfast briefing on Tuesday the 12th of August. The briefing will focus on the problems caused by pyrite and how companies can best protect themselves from this threat.
The free briefing will comprehensively cover the all main issues and regulatory challenges concerning pyrite. SR21 will be outlined and explained in full along with information on how to best manage and handle hardcore, aggregates, concrete and blocks along with managing standard quality control compliance on site.
Those attending the briefing will also hear about the best way to safeguard their projects and their companies from problems caused by pyrite found on site.
Among the speakers will be Dr. Brian Hawkins, who is an expert on pyrite and a fellow of the Institute of Civil Engineers, the Institution of Materials Mineral and Mining and the Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation. He will be joined by Mr. Paul Forde, Joint Managing Director of DBFL Ltd along with both Tom Parlon and Hubert Fitzpatrick from the CIF.
Given the destruction that pyrite can bring to a project this is one breakfast briefing not to be missed.
