CIF welcomes major investments in Cork’s Infrastructure

The Construction Industry Federation today welcomed the announcement from Minster Simon Coveney and Minister Brendan Howlin on Government plans to invest in various infrastructural projects in the Cork region. Regional Director for the CIF Conor O’Connell  stated that “these announcements are very welcome as it gives confidence to the wider business community that Cork is developing and expanding. It allows investors to plan with confidence and illustrates that public sector investment in infrastructure is keeping pace with recent jobs announcements for the region. Of critical importance though is that timelines are placed on projects. The construction industry and the wider business community need to have assurances in relation to commencement dates for critical infrastructural projects such as the Dunkettle Interchange, Macroom bypass, City Centre Flood Relief works and the N28.”

The proposal that we should begin planning for the population of Cork to double to 1 Million people by 2050 is particularly welcome as there is significant potential in the Cork region to expand its population and employment base. “In this regard it is absolutely vital in forward planning that lands are serviced and zoned to facilitate such growth.”
