Featured Project: Walls Construction

Our latest featured project comes from Walls Construction, who won a design and build competition from the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) to act as main contractors on the ‘One Dublin Airport Central’ Project.

In 2014 the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) took over the former Aerlingus headquarters, with a view to redeveloping the site. Originally built in 1960, the bespoke office building is 78m long and stands at 25m high.

The works conducted by Walls Construction involved the regeneration of the 45-year-old 6 storey over basement building. This required demolition of the extension, and stripping the building back to its original concrete frame structure which boasts clear span, post-tensioned, 15m wide column free floor plates.

The building was then re-clad with a triple glazed façade and new services installed throughout including an additional lift. The upgrade also included improved insulation, a flexible layout, and the installation of T50 broadband throughout.

The project comprises a quintessential Deep Energy Retrofit of the original building to provide 8300m2 of Grade A Workspace, achieving LEED Gold Accreditation and a BER rating of A3. One DAC (Dublin Airport Central) is intended to be the flagship for a new generation of commercial facilities at the heart of the airport campus.
