Geoscience Ireland, the network of 28 Irish companies delivering technical expertise to overseas markets, is delighted to have joined the Construction Industry Federation (CIF).
Background
Established in 2012, The Geoscience Ireland (GI) network is a platform for Irish SMEs to scale and win projects in overseas markets. It is supported in its ambition by the Geological Survey of Ireland and Enterprise Ireland.
As Ireland’s economy continues to recover from the economic crisis, Ireland’s export strategy remains central to our economic wellbeing. Diversification to international markets proved an invaluable move for Irish companies during the recession, and now GI Member Companies provides a conduit to specialised project calls in its target markets, including:
- the UK,
- the Nordics,
- the Balkans,
- the Accession States,
- Sub-Saharan Africa, and
- the Gulf Region.
GI is enthusiastic to align with the CIF Membership to explore opportunities in the sphere of civil and consulting engineering. The GI network and secretariat facilitates company scaling, technical development, leverages established networks and promotes research & innovation. The benefits of scaling are clear: more sustainable business, stronger competitive positions, better negotiation stances, higher revenues and overall a stronger sector economy that benefits Irish society as a whole. By combining resources in a collaborative manner, the network offers both small-company flexibility and large-company scale.
Who We Are & What We Do
Geoscience Ireland Members are specialists in breaking ground. The collaborative network provides the science and engineering required to do so.
Its Members are Expert Consultants in:
- Consulting Engineering
- Geotechnical Engineering

And Expert Contractors in:
- Drilling

In winning work overseas, GI researches and tracks project and tender opportunities in the public and private sector as well as winning projects from global development agencies, for example the World Bank, and European development agencies. Such processes are fiercely competitive by nature and the GI network is looking forward to exploring opportunities with the CIF Membership.
In joining the CIF, Sean Finlay, GI Business Development Director, said:
“The construction sector is a vital industry for any economy. It is proven that skills developed in the Irish market transfer successfully abroad and GI is eager to bring Irish expertise to international markets. The supports provided by the CIF to the sector are immeasurable; GI is delighted to now be a member and looks forward to engaging with the CIF and, in particular, the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA)”
