As part of the #BuildingEquality 2018 Campaign, Aoife Murphy, soon to be Senior Engineer with David Kelly Partnership Chartered Engineers , shares her story as a woman in construction.
I’m a Structural Engineer. I graduated from Trinity in 2007.
In 2010 I was made redundant and moved to New Zealand. Shortly after arriving a massive earthquake took place and I worked for over 6 years repairing homes damaged by the earthquake sequence.
In late 2016 with a view to moving home I applied for a scholarship with The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings in the UK. For 9 months I travelled the UK and Ireland learning all about the various skills involved in the repair of historical buildings.
I have just accepted a job as a senior engineer with David Kelly Partnership in Youghal Co Cork and start in a few weeks. I can’t wait to start working in Ireland again after almost 8 years away.
