As part of the #BuildingEquality 2018 Campaign, Daniela Creedon of Creedon Construction Ltd shares her story as a woman in construction.
I joined my husband to ‘help out in the office’ when needed, about 5-6 years ago. But my involvement and role kept increasing and getting more important for the business. I now run operations and project manage.
What keeps me interested and challenged is that every day is different. We do the same thing over and over yet it’s never the same. I also like the tangibility of the finished product. It fills me with immense joy to stand in front of a project we just finished, or drive by one we finished in the past and feel that I did it.
I played a part in making something that will stand there for a long time and besides my family, I can’t think of a better testament to one’s life. I also love the happiness our residential and domestic clients feel when they are handed over the keys to their new home.
We create blank canvasses for memories, interests, hobbies, new friends and new babies to be brought into. We give people a sacred place called home. Can you really do better than that?
Women play an extremely important part in construction. We have greater understanding of the emotional investment our clients are making. We are designed to be jugglers, out of the box and quick thinkers and problem solvers. These are invaluable additions to any project.
