As part of the #BuildingEquality 2018 Campaign, Suzanne Keane, SK Design/Teicniuil Priory Consulting Engineers Ltd , shares her story as a woman in construction.
I’ve always had an interest in buildings and was designing “developments” from a very young age! In school Technical Drawing was my favourite subject and my first step into the industry was in IT Tralee where I studied Construction Studies.
I then moved to Dundalk IT to do Construction Studies with Building Surveying. My first job was with an Architect in Killarney (D.A. Linton Ford) where I developed my design skills over the next few years. I then moved to London to work on projects such as Westminster Magistrates Court and returned home as the recession hit the UK.
I then completed an honours degree in Quantity Surveying from IT Sligo. These days I work as a Design Consultant with Teicniuil Priory Consulting Engineers Ltd who are a small multi-disciplinary firm located in Killarney, Co. Kerry on projects all over Ireland and the UK. What makes us unusual is that 80% of the workforce are women! #buildingequality
