Did you know that tourism is an integral part of the Irish economy, supporting 240,000 jobs and generating an estimated €7.2bn in revenue?
Fáilte Ireland, the national tourism development authority, is continuing to build on this success to ensure the benefits of tourism are spread across every region and for a longer season.
A key focus of its work is working with a range of sectors to invest in major visitor experiences and attractions, making sure Ireland has a world-class tourism offering that can attract visitors from across the globe.
Fáilte Ireland is also investing in its four key visitor brands – the Wild Atlantic Way, which covers the west coast of Ireland and is centred on the area’s rugged, wild landscapes; Dublin, a regional experience brand focused on promoting a vibrant city, side by side with nature; Ireland’s Ancient East, which brings to life the east’s rich built heritage through great stories and history; and Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands, the newest regional experience brand for the Midlands, which encourages visitors to be ‘active in nature’ and to explore off the beaten tracks.
Fáilte Ireland is keen to grow tourism through both public and private investment, and next year we will be doing a call out for projects as part of our capital investment programme to develop world-class visitor attractions.
As tourism grows throughout the country, the need for more hotels, restaurants and other hospitality infrastructure is also rising – whether to meet very strong demand in mature destinations like Dublin or to encourage further growth in emerging tourism regions such as the Midlands and Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands
