The Construction Industry Federation & Lean Construction Ireland through its South West Branch (The Southwest Lean Forum (SWLF)) held a regional engagement seminar on the 4th of July in the Rochestown Park Hotel, Douglas , Cork.
The seminar was entitled “Cost Avoidance and Margin Increase” . Internationally renowned Lean Expert with McCarthy Building Companies’ USA (turnover $3.7bn) Felipe Engineer-Manriquez spoke at the event giving examples of how McCarthys have used Lean Construction Practices to double team productivity throughout the Company. Felipe is a committed Lean Practitioner with over a decade of direct experience implementing Lean on a variety of construction projects and is an active member of the Global Lean Construction Institute and is a Jeff Sutherland Certified ScrumMaster.
There was also a hands on practical group training session for attendees run by Crystal Lean Solutions using Villego Last Planner Training. Attendees were shown how the Last Planner System (LPS) can be used to help deliver projects on-time and on budget. The LPS focuses on the creation of predictable and reliable workflow in construction planning and execution. By focusing on the removing of constraints attendees were shown how the LPS can help to deliver a project on time, with improved quality, and delivering your margin.
Dr. Joe Harrington, Head of School of Building & Civil Engineering at Cork Institute of Technology stated he was delighted to be involved as part of the Local Organising Committee of Lean Construction Ireland for the 2nd Lean Construction Southern Region Event.
“This event builds on a series of previous Lean Construction events held in the Cork Region raising awareness within the construction sector across the region regarding the importance and relevance of Lean Construction. We are delighted to have Felipe Engineer Manrique, an international expert in Lean Construction, share his experiences with us. The practical training session on the Villego® Last Planner Training hosted by Crystal Lean Solutions has proved very successful providing for a fun and thought provoking session.”
