First Network West events focuses on outlook for the industry in west of Ireland

The CIF Galway branch hosted it’s “Network West” event in The Galmont Hotel, Galway on the 12^th September 2019

Guests were given presentations from Damian Kilgannon, Head of Property, IDA Ireland and John O’Regan, Director, AECOM on the outlook for the construction industry in the west of Ireland for the next 12 to 18 months.

Guests also heard from the Tara Flynn, Chairperson, CIF Galway Branch, Pat Lucey, CIF President, Tom Parlon, CIF Director General, and Justin Molloy, CIF Regional Director.

Tara Flynn stated; “Our first CIF “Network West” event was very encouraging. Collaboration between all the different sectors within our industry is key, and it was encouraging to have so many of them join us on Thursday evening. It is inspiring to see the various scales of construction projects that are now taking place in Galway, particularly during a time when the industry is trying to navigate various challenges from infrastructural deficits, to planning and public procurement difficulties.

Economic development in the west has seriously lagged behind Dublin, and now that our regional economy is beginning to grow, it is imperative that Government listen to and engage with us in the West. Finally, I would like to thank all who attended our event, and to our sponsors for the evening, DRS Bonds and Topcon, their continued support is very much appreciated.”

Speaking about the event, Justin Molloy said; “The CIF Galway office was delighted to hoist the event where guests from all sectors of the industry were in attendance.”

Justin explains; “That while construction activity had been slow to take off in Galway over the last number of years, it has now begun to pick up significantly.

Some very largescale construction projects have recently commenced in Galway and more are in the planning process. This is good, not only for Galway, but also for the entire western region. Galway can be the catalyst to stimulate economic development throughout the entire western region, and we must all work together to ensure that this is achieved.”
