As part of the #BuildingEquality Campaign, Fiona, Digital Marketing Specialist with Hilti shares her story.
After graduating from Commerce and Italian in University College of Cork in 2015 if you had told me then that I would be working in the construction industry I wouldn’t have believed whoever was telling me. But that is exactly where the barrier of perception needs to be broken and that’s exactly when I happily am now.
After spending a year and a half travelling and working in Vietnam I settled back into my career path in Marketing and started an MSc in NUIG. In 2018 I was activity applying for Digital Marketing role’s in Dublin.
One of the main things when launching yourself into the workforce is knowing what you want and more importantly what you don’t want. As anyone in Marketing can relate there are an array of responsibilities and knowing which ones you want to build on and if the company culture will align with your values is the most important thing.
A recruiter reached out of me after applying for the ‘Brand and Digital Marketing Specialist’ role and it all was looking for in a role. It just so happened to then be in a company called Hilti which I had also never heard of. But the more prep and research I did I realised all of the values of the company aligned with mine and was a brilliant global company to work for.
Following on nearly 2 years now, still here and still very happy. It’s very simple really, the construction industry is a massive booming sector with a vast array of roles in business and they need all people and personalities to operate it. For the old image that comes into our minds of men and the type of man in the industry at the forefront, that has long passed, along with our generation and society continuing to create new norms.
