The CIF Annual Conference: Constructing Ireland 2027 took place in Croke Park on October 6th with a record +450 delegates attending.
The day focused on the creation of a 10 year vision for the construction industry, and how it will shape Irish society in the coming decade. The bold ambitions of the Vision are to create an internationally successful Irish construction industry that delivers world-class innovative construction by 2027. Delegates were given a Q&A document to take away from the day and are being called upon to submit proposal on how to make this Vision a reality.
Speakers at the event included both the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government, Simon Coveney and the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Paschal Donohue. The Ministers discussed the growth in the construction industry, infrastructure policy, and increased expenditure in 2017, as well as the Rebuilding Ireland Housing Strategy.
Ian Kehoe, Editor of the Sunday Business Post chaired the conference and other speakers on the day included CIF President Michael Stone, CIF Director General Tom Parlon, Chief Executive Construction Industry Council UK, Graham Watts OBE, CEO of Enterprise Ireland Julie Sinnamon, Executive Director of the IDA Mary Buckley, Director RPS Group PJ Rudden, Associate Research Professor at Trinity College Dublin Dr Edgar Morgenroth, Irish Mortgage Brokers Karl Deeter, Director DKM Economic Consultants Annette Hughes, Senior Managing Director, Hines Ireland Brian Mora, Executive Director for skills development, Solas Dr Mary-Liz Trant, Director of Research, Savills John McCarthy, Chief Operations Officer, Respond! Ned Brennan and Tax Director, PwC Hugh Campbell.
Matters discussed between guest speakers and attendees to the conference included infrastructure gaps in Ireland and investment, Irelands housing needs, the housing strategy and future growth in the industry in Ireland including exports and employment.
