The Building an Inclusive Future Initiative survey is a groundbreaking, data-led programme to shape the future of workplace culture in construction.
Thanks to all the firms that completed the first phase of our inaugural inclusion survey, which closed on 15th August. Firms employing around 20,000 employees fed into the survey. This survey examined organisational data, including workforce metrics, leadership – such as gender diversity – training and development, benefits, engagement practices, and corporate social responsibility.
Some key findings
Some key findings include an average proportion of 11.2% of women employed, which is higher than the figures typically reported by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) data. Regarding social impact, over 92% of firms donate or sponsor local community initiatives or causes, demonstrating how the construction industry plays an intrinsic role in society by creating social value. A full report was developed, with a brief presentation and discussion at the CIF Annual Conference back on September 30th.
The question set for Phase II of the survey is being finalised, focusing on the employee experience. We aim to launch at the CIF annual conference and conduct it during October, aligning with Construction Safety Month. Psychological safety – the freedom to speak up – on sites, and the culture on site plays a crucial role in accident prevention.
Thank you once again for your cooperation on the survey – it will establish a baseline and help guide the development of supports and policies moving forward. We look forward to your support for the second phase of the survey.
