Specialist Contracting Services
The Department provides information and assistance on all contractual issues including Prequalification, Tendering, Contract issues and disputes, and it can provide detailed reviews of tender and contract documents and advice on the risks being presented.

CIF Education, Training and Skills Committee
The respective CIF department, led by Dermot Carey (Director, Safety and Training) act as the voice of the contracting sector of the construction industry in Ireland. The Department works to identify and manage skills and training needs within the construction sector and address the emerging skills needs as they arise.

The CIF Safety & Manpower Services Department develops and implements the policies as agreed by the CIF’s Safety, Health & Welfare sub Committee and the CIF Manpower, Education & Training sub-Committee and as approved by the CIF Executive Body.

The Industrial Relations and Employment Services Department implements the policies and directions set out by the CIF’s Industrial Relations sub-Committee. It provides information, advice and support to contractors on managing their workforce to ensure compliance with employment protective legislation.

Learning & Development
The Department provides a wide range of top quality programmes, with expert lecturers sourced from relevant fields within the construction industry. As a result, its construction training programmes are highly regarded, both in Ireland and internationally. CIF training courses are practical, allowing them to be easily transferred to real world scenarios on site.

CIF Benevolent Trust
The CIF Benevolent Trust was established by the Construction Industry Federation in 1982. It is a charitable trust and is dedicated to the relief of distress on owners, directors, senior management, supervisory staff and dependents in the construction industry.

CPAS, a subsidiary of the CIF, was established to provide a professional pension administration service to the Construction and Related Industries. With a dedicated, experienced and highly professional team, CPAS ensures best practice in key areas of pension scheme management.

Climate Action Plan
The CIF has broadly welcomed the publication of the Government’s ‘Climate Action Plan 2019’ as a very positive statement of intent on behalf of the Government. Among the plan’s goals are the retrofitting of 500,000 homes to B2 level, and the installation of heat pumps in 400,000 homes and businesses. If Government estimates are right, the retrofitting of 500,000 homes could quadruple the size of the Irish retrofit market to €600m per annum.

The Construction Industry Retirement Trust Scheme (CIRT) was set up on 1st March 1991. CIRT’s objective is to cater for the self-employed and for employees in non-pensionable employment within the construction and related industries.

Construction Workers’ Pension Scheme (CWPS)
With over 30,000 active members supported by over 2,500 participating employers, CWPS is one of the largest private sector pension schemes in Ireland. CWPS is a multi-employer industry wide scheme, providing pensions solutions for workers in the construction industry, at a low cost to members and employers.

Lessons Learned / Best Practices in Health & Safety in Construction
How many times have we heard, or even stated the following: “let that be a lesson to you”? We all need to learn from past mistakes to prevent a repeat event or undesirable consequence. Accidents and near misses are preventable but only if we first understand how and why they happen and take corrective actions. It is for this reason that the CIF has developed this portal for the sharing of both Lessons Learned / Best Practices in Health & Safety in Construction.
