From net zero housing and biodiversity in design to safety leadership, women in STEM, and mental health fundraising – CIF members have continued to show leadership across all pillars of ESG.

Below is a roundup of standout initiatives and achievements shared by member firms over the past quarter.

1. D/RES starts work on Net Zero Carbon project in Wicklow

D/RES Properties announced the commencement of construction on Altadore Gardens, a largely timber‑based development. This marks a clear commitment to lower embodied carbon through using engineered timber for structural elements, including a creche and community center. The project reflects sustainable design practices and material choices. The project was also showcased recently during World Green Building Week.

2. John Sisk & Son – “Zero Plastic to Landfill” achievement

Sisk earned its second Zero Plastic to Landfill certification in August 2025 for its Citywest head office. This recognises Sisk’s robust efforts in eliminating single-use plastics and enhancing recycling across both project sites and corporate offices.

3. Murphy – Investment in fuel-efficient equipment and support for SETU Ground Engineering Technician programme

Murphy highlighted an environmental initiative in August 2025, announcing a £6.5 million investment in 34 new Caterpillar machines to boost fuel efficiency and cut emissions on projects. By upgrading its fleet with more efficient excavators and a low-emission dozer, Murphy demonstrated a commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and operating more sustainably. The Caterpillar D6 XE hybrid dozer is expected to reduce fuel costs by around £110 per day, as it uses on average 23% less fuel than other machines of its type, with a 35% better fuel efficiency on average.

Murphy’s Ground Engineering team is supporting a new two-year technician programme in partnership with SETU (South East Technological University), leading to a Level 6 Higher Certificate in Engineering. The fully funded course combines classroom learning with on-site experience in geotechnical investigation, soil analysis, and ground stabilisation, offering paid placements and strong career progression opportunities.

4. John Paul Construction – Wins Safety Award

John Paul Construction has received the RoSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) President’s Award, recognising 13 consecutive Gold Awards for excellence in health, safety, and wellbeing. This honour reflects the company’s long-standing commitment to its WORKSAFE | HOMESAFE culture and to maintaining the highest safety standards across all projects.

5. Jones Engineering named to CDP Supplier Engagement A-List 2024 & sponsorship of St Conleth’s Gaelic for mothers and others

Jones Engineering has been awarded an ‘A’ score by CDP for its 2024 Supplier Engagement Assessment, placing it on the prestigious CDP A List for climate-related supply chain action. This recognition reflects sustained efforts to engage suppliers on emissions tracking, Scope 3 reporting, and shared climate commitments.

7. Winthrop: Breaking barriers with Sarah Leahy

8. Suir Engineering – Cycle Against Suicide

Suir Engineering’s team completed the 721km Mizen to Malin Cycle Against Suicide Challenge, raising over €125,000 to support mental health education and services across Ireland. The six-day effort, supported in partnership with Jacobs, highlights Suir’s strong commitment to wellbeing and social impact.

9. Duggan Brothers – Tour de Eire Charity cycle for the Irish Kidney Association

Duggan Brothers’ team has completed the Tour de Éire, a 2,000km charity cycle tracing Ireland’s full coastline, with over 22,000km logged collectively by 50+ participants. The event supports the Irish Kidney Association (Tipperary Branch), with a donation matching the total distance cycled – showcasing teamwork, resilience, and social impact.
