The CIF welcomes the announcement today that An Coimisiún Pleanála has granted planning approval for the N6 Galway City Ring Road.
Justin Molloy, Director of the CIF Western and Midland Region, said:
“We welcome today’s decision by An Coimisiún Pleanála to grant planning permission for the Galway Outer Ring Road. This is a critical piece of transport infrastructure that represents a real opportunity for the people and businesses of Galway. It will help to significantly reduce daily congestion, improve journey times, enhance road safety, and create space for expanded public transport and active travel options.
“Galway is both a cultural heart of Ireland and a powerhouse of med‑tech innovation, hosting some of the largest and most significant business investments in Europe. A reliable transport network is essential to sustaining and growing that success. The ring road will strengthen Galway’s competitiveness and make it an even more attractive place to invest, work and live.
“Crucially, this project is also a key enabler of future housing delivery across the region. Improving connectivity and easing traffic pressure will unlock new opportunities for residential development, allowing the city to grow in a more balanced and sustainable way, and helping to address the acute pressures created by limited transport capacity.
“This approval is a major boost for the region. What’s vital now is that we see this project commence swiftly to the procurement and construction stages. We look forward to continuing to work on behalf of the construction sector to support the successful delivery of this vital piece of infrastructure for the people of Galway.”
