ARM 5

GCCC have advised that project appointments commencing at stage 1 on or after January 1st 2025 will be obligated to prepare tender documents based on ARM 5 for stage 3 of those projects. For all other non-public building projects the SCSI/CIF will advise in due course an agreed implementation date and advise the amendments as appropriate to the Code of Practice for Selective Tendering.

The new ARM 5 document is now published presented in A3 landscape tabular PDF format alongside a brief CIF information note. The new ARM 5 includes a revised referencing system to facilitate computerised BQ production, BIM and other applications. ARM 5 will supersede ARM 4 and the two ARM 4 Supplements currently in use. Its is expected to be implemented early in the new year. Details of future information webinars and training will follow.

There are several amendments in ARM 5; including to the General Rules section, which introduces new Rules for Contractor Designed Development Works amongst other rules. The CIF has been actively engaged with the development of ARM 5 through representation on the ARM Committee. The CIF has sought provisions to help contractors manage their design responsibility in the tender process and during the works. The changes to the General Rules section are therefore relevant and welcome. These new rules align with recent supports and resources published by the CIF to help members with the measurement, pricing and management of Design Risk and compliance with Building Control.
